ЯELDA is seeking an individual for a remote position as an editorial assistant.
What does our editorial assistant role look like?
• Collaborates closely with us in marketing, publicity, rights, production, and design to ensure books are published to the highest standard.
• Keeps track of contracts, deadlines, manuscripts, covers, and other parts of the publication process.
• Developing and maintaining expert-level knowledge of our titles.
• Shepherds manuscripts through production, from styling to transmittal to trafficking materials back and forth with the author.
• Schedules meetings and occasional travel plans; handles expense reports.
• Collects data and maintains imprint databases on acquisitions, sales, contact information, and freelancers.
• Organizes major imprint happenings, including preparations for seasonal sales meetings and strategy sessions.
• Reads and shares feedback on manuscripts in progress; line edit manuscripts and/or excerpts as needed.
• Operate Google sheet where the team can check the status of a title across platforms (eg. audiobook: live, Ingram: In revision) before and after publication
• General assistant tasks such as, but not limited to, creator outreach, scheduling, and administrative support as needed.
Requirements:
• Excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-up skills
• Confidence and comfort talking to authors, agents, and colleagues, especially on the phone/Zoom
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team
• Ability to take initiative and problem-solve creatively
• Ability to go down rabbit holes and be curious
• Ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously
• Proficiency in using Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube
• Proficiency with Google Sheets and Canva; Eagerness to experiment with new technology is appreciated!
• Interest in Poetry books
• Prior experience in book publishing is a plus, but not required
• Have gone viral previously on social media is a plus, but not required.
What your first 90 days would look like:
• Within 30 days: Develop a strong understanding of our author through her writing, digital footprint, and potentially one-on-one calls. Two manuscripts are proofread (est. 100-120 pages per). Two covers are assessed for fixing and fixed if there are any issues. Communication with the author as it arises. Booking travel plans if they arise.
• Within 60 days: Set up a Google sheet where the team can view a title's status. Maintain our relationships with affiliates on TikTok Shop. Entering data of weekly sales. Begin conducting A/B tests to further improve our books and hit our goals, eg. Determine if asking to leave a review in the book increases reviews. Help design unique marketing ideas and their distribution, including PR boxes. And potentially other general assistant tasks eg. schedule meetings, reachouts, etc.
• Within 90 days: You will begin to see your own impact. Be curious and solve problems as they arise. Maintain title's status and quality. Continue A/B tests. Other general assistant tasks. (optional) Submit innovative ideas to the team aligned with our goals.
