Your Teen Writers

Your Teen is a publication for parents of teenagers—middle school, high school, and up to the first year or two of college—and for professionals working with teenagers. Our mission is to be a trusted source—and a fun, informative read!—for readers who are seeking information about teenagers.

Writing for Your Teen Media

If you have an idea for an article: Please send a pitch of your idea to the Your Teen editors. Your pitch should be no more than three or four paragraphs. It should include: a short overview of your idea, why it matters to our audience, and a sense of the experts/parents/teenagers (if applicable) you will interview for your story. We recommend you take the time to review our website before you pitch us. Please also tell us about your writing experience and provide links to 2-3 writing samples.

If you have an idea for an essay or blog: Great! Our readers love personal stories about the ups, downs and in-betweens of raising teenagers. However, we cannot commit to publication of an essay or blog without reading the entire piece first. Please submit your essay or blog to the Your Teen editors. We sometimes make exceptions for experienced essayists/bloggers. If that’s you, please send a couple paragraphs about your idea and 2-3 samples of your work. Work must be original and not previously published.

If you are an expert:Also great! We have many experts writing for Your Teen. Please submit a one to two paragraph description of the expert advice piece you’d like to write to the Your Teen editors. In addition, please tell us about your professional background.

We appreciate your patience. You may not hear from us right away. We get a lot of email. If we are interested in your idea, we will be in touch. If you don’t hear from us, it’s because we don’t believe your idea is a good fit for Your Teen at this time. Feel free to pitch us a new idea.

Our writer’s agreement: If we publish your work, we’ll send you an official contract, but you can preview some of our key terms here.

No simultaneous submissions: We ask that you give us 14 days for evergreen topics and 5 days for timely topics before you submit your pitch or article elsewhere. If you are submitting a full draft for consideration, it should be unpublished work that has not appeared previously in print or online (including personal blogs, Medium, etc.).

Tone and editorial style: We are looking for an engaging, upbeat, and journalistic writing style. It’s often a good idea to open your piece with an anecdote, and humor is appreciated when appropriate.

Your Teen is meant to be readable for busy parents. Helpful subheadings are recommended as appropriate, and we avoid overwrought language and excessive use of passive voice.

Read all of the details carefully here: https://yourteenmag.com/about/write-for-ytm

This form has been developed to give you the most direct and timely access to the editors of the magazine.  FreelanceMom Guidelines for Submissions

  • Your article should offer current practical and actionable advice, tips and be in-depth enough that the reader walks away with new knowledge and new approaches.  (In-depth, meaning, not saying the same thing that is already been said a hundred times before and is well-researched and thought-out).

  • Your article should be well-organized, written in short paragraphs and include lists and bullet points where it makes sense. Feel free to include graphics to illustrate your points.

  • Please include any references to research or other references you used to write your content. We won’t necessarily put this in your article, but just so we know where you got your facts from.

  • Your article HAS to be original and not published anywhere else EVER. (We have exclusive rights to the content).

  • Your article should contain personal stories and anecdotes that connect and are relatable to other moms who want to sell their expertise or currently run a part-time or full-time business.

  • Your article should have a thought-out headline (which gives me a good indication of what your content will be like).

  • Your article should contain a “20 to 30 minute action plan” at the end (whether that is in the form of powerful reflective questions, tools to use or an actual step-by-step plan that will help the reader apply their learning).

  • Guest articles should be between 900 to 1,500 words.

  • Three types of articles do well here, but not limited to are (I have examples of content ideas below):

    • Highly personal articles where there are lessons learned that you share or aggregated case-studies from other moms running businesses based on a particular theme. For example: “How these three moms priced their services or unique ways to make an extra $1000 a month or “How I increased my Facebook engagement and got 100 new email subscribers.”

    • Highly researched articles that illustrate trends or industry knowledge.  For example: “Should you publish your price on your website? what the experts say and why?”

    • Education based articles (guides) on specific systems, processes or tools.  For example “illustrated demo on “how to use a xxx process or tool to save 5 hours a week” or “your guide on negotiating price with first time clients” or “the one tweak you need to make to your website that your missing or where you should put your opt-in forms on your website and why.”

Christian Courier: Poems, Short Pieces

Roughly three generations have inhabited CC’s pages, exhorting one another, seeking a faithful intersection of Christian testimony and cultural engagement. Each decade birthed new emphases – the struggles of immigrants acclimating to Canadian culture, sharp theological conflicts, the theory and praxis of Christian schools and other Christian organizations, Sunday observance and movie attendance, the place of women in the church and the current focus on social justice issues.

For 75 years Christian Courier has highlighted the gospel truth of that “kingdom on earth,” the already and not yet reign of Jesus Christ. Clinging to our Easter hope, Christian Courier readers and writers, witness-bearers all, can pray confidently with author Gary Schmidt (Acceptable Words: Prayers for the Writer), “Lord, let the words serve.”
