Whether you're a future WAHM or already doing something at home to earn income, one of the fastest ways to make money is by not spending it. I know it sounds obvious, but there are so many ways I've let money slip out of my hands. Here are a few ways you can save money starting now.
Cancel all the subscriptions you aren't using. Paramount+ comes to mind. Sometimes we sign up for free trials and forget. Is there anything you can cancel? Check your bank statements and PayPal to see if you've been paying for something you're not using.
Pack food when you leave the house. I drive a lot during the week and sometimes need to eat something on-the-go. I make it a habit to keep easy fruits like clementines, string cheese, chips, or granola bars in my purse so that I'm not tempted to hit the drive through any time I want something. The benefit to this is that it's a lot healthier, too (unless I bring a cupcake).
Rotate your kid's toys. Kids will cry and beg for a toy in a store and lose interest in that thing the same afternoon. Keep the novely of their toys alive (and a toy mountain from taking over your living room) by rotating their toys. Pack up some of them and put them in a closet. Every few months bring out the new and pack up some of the old ones. You'd be shocked by how excited they are to see toys they forgot all about. Many daycares live by this trick.
Cook. I used to have the worst Doordash/Uber Eats habit. When I look back on it, I was simply overwhelmed and needing the feeling of relief. But using food delivery services often adds up quickly. When dinner seems like just too much after a long day of kid wrangling, my first instinct isn't to order something anymore, but to make a really simple meal. Breakfast for dinner (eggs and boiled then pan-fried potatoes with fruit, oatmeal, eggs and toast), English muffin pizzas, pasta with melted cheese- these are 100% fine to give your kiddos. Add some sliced cucumber if you're feeling up to it for extra (but unnecessary) points.
Avoid Impulse Items. Sure that t-shirt from the TikTok shop or really cool pen from Amazon looks like a must-have right now, but in two weeks, will it wind up in a clutter pile somewhere? A lot of the impulse items we buy are an attempt to feel like we're treating ourselves, which is great, but if you're looking to save, it can help to find another way to feel special. Decluttering always makes me feel bonita. Getting rid of clothes I'm not wearing anymore or donating books that are taking up space makes me feel like a million bucks. And selling something on Facebook marketplace? Well that's even better. List some stuff you have and see what happens.
