Diary of a UGC Mom: My Lorelai Gilmore Moment

If you’ve been following along, you know that I’ve been doing UGC since around March using the super popular Anti-Influencer Method (AIM). UGC means User Generated Content, and it basically means creating content for brands. Not highly polished content, but real mom life.
Since I started, I’ve signed two UGC contracts, one for $850, both faceless. I had every intention of staying faceless because your girl is a bit shy, but this week the most incredible thing happened. I got over myself.
I’m not sure what happened. I think it was just being stressed out dealing with home stuff and being in a weird place in my cycle, but I just stopped caring and made over nine videos with my face.
I think another big part of it was that I started caring more about what I was talking about than how I looked or who saw me. I don’t know. I made three videos in a row for one account and six for another. I have almost 2,000 views total on all of them, and one of them did really well.
I didn’t get all dressed up or even put on full makeup. I just used a soft filter. I know this is going to open up a lot of doors for me, and I’m pumped.
This week I had a couple of authors ask about having UGC book content made for them. My prices are super reasonable, but I always get nervous that I’m asking for too much. I have to get over that.
Frankly, time as a mother is valuable. Period. We could always be pouring it into our families, and when we take on tasks for others, we’re freeing them up to do something else.
Keep your prices where you know they should be. Don’t lower them just to get a yes. I learned that in the Anti-Influencer Method.
One of the most important videos in AIM that I’ve watched is Reframe Your Mindset. The reason moms hesitate when it comes to going for what they want to do, or throw in the towel, is because we go in with the wrong mindset. I’ve been there.
You have to stop being so hard on yourself. You have to stop thinking you’re bothering brands or companies. You have to stop thinking negatively or being afraid. You even have to stop focusing on money. Focus on the fact that brands need you and you are helping people.

This video keeps me pumped. I’m grateful for all of the videos that talk about how to pitch, the templates, and the walk-throughs on how to do UGC and virtual assisting, but this one is so important to watch because the way you think has to change if you want to be successful.
It’s funny because I LOVE Gilmore Girls, and Lorelai Gilmore really embodies this. Her dream of having an inn didn’t stay a dream. She went for it and wasn’t focused on how much she’d make, but on how amazing the inn would be for the community and how much fun it would be for her.

She wasn’t obsessed with perfection or wondering if she could do it. She didn’t think, “This city doesn’t need another inn.” She knew hers would be unique and that people would love it.
She built her business from the heart, with a super positive attitude of service.
When I got over showing up with my face and voice, I felt a shift. I knew I was going from self-focus to being free, being passionate about helping and sharing, and just having fun. Like, who cares? Let’s just show up.
Let’s be like Lorelai. But maybe with less caffeine? LOL.
Until next time. This week I’m pitching three companies and getting more serious about applying to UGC gigs online… since you can see my face and all now. LOL.
See you!
