Diary of a UGC Mom: Day 8 (My Big Win This Week)

Last night I was watching TikToks from UGC (User Generated Content) women of all ages who were sharing their wins and methods when it comes to creating content for brands.

All I could think about was that I wish I'd known about this sooner. Even a few years ago.

When I see Megan post in the group about The Anti-Influencer Method, there's usually at least one comment from someone along the lines of, "You're just making money off of this course. No one can earn this much actually doing it."

Part of me gets it. People have been burned by MLMs, people have been scammed. People have bought courses that they never used or that weren't very good.

And I understand the other part. The envy. Hearing about how much someone is making when you aren't doing as well as you wish you were can be hard. People don't want to be let down.

But what gets me is that if people just pushed past the suspicion they felt, the anger, the envy, the overwhelm, the "I could never" and did a bit of research into UGC and the background of Megan herself, they probably would wish they'd found it sooner, too.

There are people who sell courses who shouldn't be.

Then there are people who figured out something that would change people's lives because it changed theirs. Not only does Megan walk the walk (she still does UGC), she took the time to develop a whole program, not just a PDF course, and actively finds and brokers deals for those enrolled. That means she's contacting companies and getting gigs for her students.

She does this and posts every day in the AIM Skool page. "Here's a gig, here's a gig. A new company wants to work with us, come on the call at 4 for the onboarding details." She's putting in work and making sure her students make it.

"Why doesn't she just offer it for free?" Megan probably puts in at least forty hours of work in a week if not more. Why would she give that away for free instead of providing for her family and children?

From the day I started the Work-at-Home Mom's Club, I shared that I was looking for a way businesses could pay moms for what they do naturally: share things they've bought and loved. This is that. I didn't know what UGC was at the time, but that's it.

If you've been looking for at-home work, you've found it. Especially if you have kids around and need flexible work with no boss breathing down your neck.

For those who can't afford the course, join the group (linked at the bottom) and glean as much information on UGC as you can. That's what I'd do without a doubt. If you want to succeed at this, you can.

I'm going to tell you, AIM has taught me a lot about myself. As I was watching those TikToks yesterday, I had to face that I had undervalued my time and skills for a long time. I'd priced my services way lower than they should have been because I saw myself as "just a stay-at-home mom."

Seeing UGC moms like Megan operate with such confidence and asking for exactly what they want without fear, changed the way I show up.

I love that there isn't one way to do it. If you're camera-shy, you get on the Virtual Assisting track (Megan was a social media manager and VA for years. She built an agency with her best friend). If you hate TikTok, but want to get paid for reviews, get on the Amazon Influener track. I don't want to make TikToks and am reserved, so I'm doing faceless UGC and helping authors promote their books (book UGC).

I'm happy to say that along with my UGC Book agency work, I landed a photo UGC gig! I had to see if I could and I did.

Initially, the company wanted me to become an affiliate. I'd earn $150 per signup that came from the photo I posted. I'm not against affiliate programs at all. But I didn't want to make any content for this company and only "maybe" get paid. No. My value is in created content that they can use.

Before AIM, I would have probably agreed and worked my butt off selling their materials.

But that version of me is gone. Instead I told them what I wanted for one UGC photo. I pulled $850 out of thin air. Keep in mind, this is for faceless content creation. One photo for perpetual use.

And they agreed.

These companies have money and they want to work with you. They need your help. THAT'S what AIM has taught me. Yes, I learned about the different kinds of UGC, how to land gigs, how to pitch, what red flags to look for, how to do a good job, and all of that, but what's changed me more than anything is the confidence I have asking for exactly what I want.

And I haven't scratched the surface yet.

I talked to a mom friend of mine who lives overseas and is looking for work she can do from home. She homeschools and runs a whole charitable organization in her city. She mentors youth every single day and is one of my personal heroes. But she isn't getting the help from donors that she used to and needs more income.

I'm going to tell her about AIM because she has only about an hour a day to work. If that. This is something that she can do. She can't work for a company that will demand she be at a desk. She doesn't need to be up all night teaching English remotely. The days or moms burning the candle at both ends is over. We did that because we thought it was the only way but it isn't.

She needs to be able to ask for $850 per photo or more and get that every week. To start. Because I know I can do more and so can she.

Moms, women are doing this every single day. They are not scamming. Tech companies, beauty companies, home product companies, websites that offer services: they are looking for people to make simple, non-polished content that they can use to sell.

You just have to believe in yourself and take the leap.

I'm still mad that I didn't discover this years ago, but they say the second best time to start something when you can't start is yesterday is today. And it makes me feel great that I can help a good friend who needs help by getting her started.

You're not "just a mom." You have skills people need and will pay for. Believe in yourself.
