Diary of a UGC Mom: Day 4 - Showing Up Messy

Lately I've had to accept that I'll never FEEL ready to do something new. I'll never feel like I'm ready to learn a new skill, or open up a module and do it, or feel like I know enough to take the leap and work with a company.
When it comes to success as a work-at-home mom, we have to approach it like we did motherhood: we just jumped.
I mean, did anyone feel 100% ready to be a mom? I knew I wanted to be a mom, but I had no idea what it was really like until I was armpit deep in the life. Even now, with my kids growing, I'm still learning on the job.
That's how it has to be for us with our work.
I'm not an "out there" person. I don't have any desire to be famous, visible, or known. That's why I've always written books. I love being private. That's why I was drawn to AIM (the Anti-Influencer Method). I want to learn how to have a career that lets me be me.
But I still have to push past my feelings and my comfort zone even as I'm behind the scenes.
The module in AIM that really changed how I see myself succeeding in this is the video called "Qualities of a Great Creator."

This video helped me feel so much more confident that I can do this. These aren't Chat GPT tips. They are real feedback from brands regarding what they're looking for. And they're all attainable. They're easy.
More and more I'm figuring out that I can do this because being a successful UGC Creator isn't about being a magical person with magical skills. It's about being communicative, reliable, and following concrete steps that are laid out in front of you.
Maybe it's being a mom and always having so many tabs in my brain open, but I like knowing exactly what I need to do and what qualities will help me do better.
In my last post, I talked about how I was talking to a company that is interested in taking me on as a UGC creator...I signed the contract! I already have a gig and haven't even finished the course.
Like motherhood, I'm learning as I go. But I'm applying what I've learned. I'm communicating (which doesn't always come easy to me- I get burned out at times talking too much), I'm showing up, I'm using the app they are promoting, and I'm even going to a virtual mixer the app is throwing tonight.
It helps that I'm actually interested in this company. I like what they stand for and what they're doing. I want to help them build and get more customers.
I was a little nervous about signing the contract. I read it carefully and it looked great so I jumped! No need to overthink. In the past, I think I've missed opportunities when caution turned into suspicion. Just do your due diligence. Let someone else read over your contract if you have concerns.
If you're in AIM or interested in UGC, this module is also super important. I don't have experience working with tech brands and creating content for them, but this video helped me know what to expect.

This video put my mind at ease because she explains common issues that come up, what your days are like working with brands and your contact at the company, etc. There are things I've never thought about.
Working at home isn't like working in an office at all. It's a whole different ball game. The more that someone knows what to expect, the better.
I have one more video and ten more modules until I finish the course.
In the Skool group, Megan posted about a piano keyboard company looking for UGC creators. It was paying up to $400 for just a couple of videos.
A mom also posted her story about how one video paid off her mortgage and more. These are real stories. Moms are doing this every single day. Companies need people to make content. Why not us?
Two hours of work a day can change your life. I feel this in my bones.
I'll be making my first few videos for the company I'm working with tomorrow! Wish me luck!
PS. I'm also helping a friend start a publishing company. I've noticed that this course has helped me with my overall confidence when it comes to just leaping in and saying yes. I needed that.
Ok I'm going to watch a movie with my 12 year-old. For those who don't know, I'm a mom of three. That's my "Why." Being with my kids.
lots of love,
Bunmi
