College Student UCG Update: I got a $300 UCG Gig!

When I first heard about UGC (User Generated Content) work, I thought it sounded too good to be true.

Seeing influencers get PR deals, sponsorships, and brand deals was normal. They’re influencers. But I didn’t believe that someone like me, a college student with a small following of close friends, would be able to make money from social media.

What makes UGC different from brands working with popular influencers is that you aren't paid based on how well known you are, companies just need content and want normal people to make it for them.

A few months ago, I was looking for work. I was introduced to AIM, the Anti-Influencer Method by my mom because she knew I liked the idea of doing something from home You can read more about when I first got started here.

AIM gave me the outline I needed to understand what UGC work entails and how to find gigs. It taught me more about what UGC is and how to find gigs. It told me which websites and apps to use. Sideshift is one of the best apps!

In the beginning, it took some work to actually find brands that would take me on as a

beginner with no UGC experience. However, within a month, I landed a gig with a Christian app that needed content for its newest app. AIM teaches you how to present yourself and even pitch apps in a non-stressful way.

Even though I had no experience, the team took me on as a UGC creator. I was given a lot of freedom in the way I created videos advertising the app. I posted two videos a day on Tiktok and Instagram for a month and was able to make $350 USD. In doing this, I was able to get experience and build up my UGC portfolio for the first time.

The second gig I got was a guitar company. They offered me $300 to make 14 vidoes. Videos take less than 20 minutes to make. That's around $65/hour before taxes. These are just my first two gigs.

This is only the start for me. My goal is $5k a month and I'm on track for that.

When I have questions, I just asked Megan, the mom who created the course. There's a whole chat where you can ask questions, too.

A three-day bootcamp for AIM starts next week on Sept 8th and my mom and I are both going. In the bootcamp, you're going to learn about UGC, edit a video, and everyone is going to apply to gigs in the course. If you've already done UGC, it'll be good to brush up on what you know and learn how to get more gigs. If you're new, you'll get a head start.

The Bootcamp starts at 7:30pm and goes from next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (Sept 8-10th). It's 1-2 hours, but I already know it'll be straight to the point and full of info. I'm excited to apply to more gigs in the camp.

Megan works directly with companies and gets good opportunities for her students so I don't want to miss this chance.

If you’re thinking of getting into UGC work, get in on the Bootcamp. It’s a great way to make some extra money and can become your full-time career if you put in the effort. Don’t give up on finding brands that will take you on with no experience - it definitely pays off!
