Writing is an excellent way for moms to make money because it's so incredibly flexible. It does take a go-getter attitude, some perseverance, and yes, some writing skill. But I've found that if you're creative or willing to be vulnerable and tell your story, you can do it.
You also have to be willing to consistently market yourself!
Here are five ways to make money from your writing in 2025.
Substack: No, it isn't oversaturated. Here's a great video on getting started with paid subscriptions on Stubstack. Like any other platform, you have to learn how to use it well. Pick a topic, one that isn't too broad, and start writing. Ask yourself: would I pay to read this and why? Be honest. Market your Substack using social media. Once people are invested, they will follow your story. Write about something you know well and that will keep people coming back for more.
Starting a blog and earning money through AdSense. If you have a topic you're passionate about: homeschooling, minimalist parenting, or even parenting in your specific city- write about it! You can drive traffic through social media and earn ad money from Google Adsense. Can you build an audience overnight? No. But within a few months with consistent posting, you will see income coming in.
Start a local blog and earn by selling ad space to local businesses. Local businesses are always looking for ways to reach customers. If you dig your heels into starting a blog that is all about your city or town- profiling new businesses, interviewing locals, reporting news parents are interested in- you can sell advertising space to entrepreneurs. New businesses especially would love help getting the word out.
Sell books on Amazon. Many people talk about wanting to write a book, but few follow through. You can be different. Make sure you're writing a book that is in demand. Market through TikTok, Facebook ads, or Instagram Reels.
